Crane Operator – 20 Tonne Franna If you’re an experienced Franna operator who enjoys precision lifting rather than repetitive construction work, this is a role worth looking at. Tradestaff is recruiting on behalf of a well‑established New Zealand business for an experienced Crane Operator to join their specialist installation team. This isn’t your typical crane role. You’ll be transporting and positioning large, pre‑engineered products into residential properties throughout the Waikato and beyond. Every lift is different, often requiring careful planning, precise crane operation, and close coordination with the installation crew to safely place products into confined spaces. Pay Rate $37.00 to $45.00 per hour (on wages), depending on your experience, references, and qualifications. Most work is based around the Waikato, although occasional travel throughout the North Island is required. When overnight work is required, all transport, accommodation, and generous stay‑away allowances will be provided. What you’ll be doing Operating a 20‑tonne Franna crane. Transporting equipment and products safely between sites. Planning and carrying out precision lifts in residential environments. Working alongside qualified dogmen/riggers during lifting operations. Establishing and maintaining safe lifting and exclusion zones. Completing pre‑start inspections and daily crane checks. Ensuring all lifting operations comply with New Zealand health and safety requirements. Representing the company professionally while working at customers’ properties. What we’re looking for Proven experience operating a 20‑tonne Franna or similar pick‑and‑carry crane. Current Class 5 New Zealand driver’s licence. Appropriate New Zealand crane operating qualifications and demonstrated competency. Experience working with dogmen/riggers and controlled lifting operations. Strong understanding of lift planning, load security, exclusion zones, and safe crane practices. Excellent communication skills and a professional attitude around customers. Reliable, safety‑focused, and able to work as part of a close‑knit team. Ability to pass a pre‑employment drug and alcohol test.
