Job Description
Overview We have an exciting opportunity for two Data Analysts to join the Data Service Delivery (DSD) unit, supporting MBIE’s energy modelling work programme. These roles are suitable for someone starting out or looking to progress in their analytics career. Locations: Wellington CBD preferred, open to Christchurch and Auckland. Salary: $75,114 – $88,266 + KiwiSaver + Wellness Benefits. 2 x full-time permanent roles. Responsibilities Support the delivery of the Markets Domain’s energy modelling work programme, including analysing potential futures of energy supply and demand. Produce analysis to inform policy development and design, and monitor how policies are tracking. Contribute to the team’s broader work programme and support Senior Data Analysts while building expertise in the energy sector. Engage with stakeholders within MBIE, across Government, and in the energy sector to ensure analysis is accessible, well communicated, and fit-for-purpose. Support the data pipeline from data sourcing and provisioning to generating insights for decision-making. Apply initiative and innovation to keep modelling tools and methodologies fit-for-purpose and to generate actionable insights for decision-makers. Qualifications and Experience A background in econometrics, applied economics, statistics, or data science; experience in at least one statistical programming language (R preferred). Strong analytical skills with the ability to work with data, identify insights, and communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences. Experience with R (or a comparable language) and Power BI; interest in modelling, forecasting, econometrics, or related analytical methods. Some background in economics, energy, or public policy is advantageous. You MUST have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
