Job Description Join AECOM’s New Zealand Generation & Storage team in this Director level role with a strategic market leadership focus across the geothermal, biogas and alternative energy market. In this role, you will have the remit to continue to build AECOM’s reputation in the market working with external clients to initiate, understand, and provide technical, project and advisory services across complex geothermal and related projects, client and site requirements. You will have a broad scope to make a lasting difference during a rapidly evolving renewable energy landscape, as our clients look to explore and solve renewable generation options as part of the energy transition. You will be part of the AECOM Generation & Storage team and Energy business line, with technical subject matter expertise available across multiple disciplines to provide solutions for project and client requirements. The fast-paced and innovative nature of projects will suit a business and technical leader looking to grow client relationships and make a difference across the sector in a client and market facing role. Understanding client needs, balancing engineering concepts and commercial project considerations, and growing the AECOM business will be key part of this role. You will also have a scope to work across the global AECOM network, providing input, support and leadership across Australia, Aisa, and global markets as a subject matter expert. How you will make a difference Be the Geothermal, Biogas and Alternative Fuels subject matter market and client lead, connecting with clients and the market to initiate and originate project proposals with clients. Act as a trusted advisor for the sector and external clients, providing technical knowledge and advisory insight across energy and project options during project initiation. Lead business development activities, including bid and proposal response processes, working across AECOM’s team of subject matter engineering disciplines. Oversee the technical approach working with client technical teams, as well as with AECOM disciplines, applying your geothermal, binary generation, biogas and related engineering capability. Provide input and New Zealand market support, across the AECOM internal geothermal and related energy teams from a market insight, proposal or technical perspective. Leading project delivery either in a Project or Design Management leadership capability, or liaising with AECOM’s project management teams, ensuring scope, timeframe and client budget requirements are met. Provide mentoring and coaching for the development of others in the Generation and Storage team, supporting their career development. Ideally based in Auckland, this role has scope to be based in other main AECOM offices throughout New Zealand. Qualifications To be successful in this Director role, you will be a leader known across the Geothermal, Biogas and related energy markets with current networks and a reputation for being a trusted advisor with clients and this market. You will be known for your ability to connect with senior leaders, to understand their technical, commercial and project needs, and being able to provide solutions and proposals that meet these needs. You will be motivated by the opportunity to lead the growth of this market, client relationships and business unit within AECOM. You will be known for your ability to deliver complex renewable and geothermal projects, working across different disciplines. Most likely your technical engineering abilities, will be across the mechanical, process or geothermal related disciplines. The following qualifications and experience are highly desired, but if you don’t tick all the boxes, you could still be a perfect fit for this role. What you will bring Current relationships and a network working with a broad range of geothermal and related clients, including large corporates, to food processors and public sector clients. A track record and ability for building positive client relationships, across senior leaders and with technical engineering, project and site teams. Deep knowledge of Geothermal, Biogas, or Alternative Energy engineering requirements including binary cycle engineering concepts. Significant experience (10+ years) in Geothermal, Biogas or related energy engineering with a focus on project delivery on large, complex projects. Track record assuring quality and compliance—confirming what is built aligns with detailed design and contractual performance obligations. Excellent stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills across technical and commercial domains. Degree in Mechanical, Process or related engineering discipline – a postgraduate qualification such as being a Chartered Engineer is advantageous. A passion for mentoring and the development to support the growth of the next generation of Geothermal and Renewable Engineers.
