Laboratory Scientist – Histology (Full Time, Permanent, 80 hours per fortnight – 1 FTE) Hawkes Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders. About the Role As a Laboratory Scientist – Histology, you will carry out a range of laboratory procedures and testing to support accurate diagnosis and clinical decision making. You will process and analyse specimens in accordance with validated methods, ensuring all work meets high quality, safety and professional standards. The role involves managing workload priorities, maintaining laboratory equipment, contributing to efficient service delivery, and ensuring compliance with laboratory protocols and the Quality Manual. You will work closely with pathologists, laboratory colleagues and clinical teams to deliver timely and reliable results. The role also includes contributing to the training and development of less experienced staff, participating in quality improvement activities, and maintaining your own professional competence through ongoing development. About the Team/Service/Location You will be part of the Histology Laboratory within Laboratory Services at Hawkes Bay Fallen Soldier Memorial Hospital. The team provides essential diagnostic services to support clinicians across the hospital and wider health system, working in a collaborative and quality‑focused environment. About You In this position you will have: Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand as a Scientist Proven experience in Histology Strong communication and teamwork skills High attention to detail and ability to follow protocols precisely Good organisational and time‑management skills A positive, problem‑solving approach Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equitable health outcomes Desired Additional histology experience or specialist knowledge Computer and data entry skills Understanding of the health sector environment Working at Health New Zealand We welcome applications from our diverse Māori, Pacific, disabled, and rainbow communities.
