Position Solutions Architect, National Security & Defence, Public Sector – New Zealand (Amazon Web Services – Wellington) About the Role The AWS Public Sector team in NewZealand is seeking a Solutions Architect to partner with national security, defence, and public safety agencies. You will design, prototype, and implement secure, sovereign cloud solutions that support mission‑critical outcomes. The role focuses on helping NSD customers accelerate cloud adoption, from early workload assessments through to production‑ready architectures. Key Responsibilities Design and review architectures for secure, resilient workloads operating in classified and protected environments. Lead technical engagements including proofs of concept, prototypes, architecture reviews, and Well‑Architected assessments. Advise customers on AWS security services, compliance frameworks (NZISM, NIST), and sovereign cloud patterns. Drive adoption of modern services—including AI/ML, containers, serverless, and data analytics—within secure boundaries. Build deep, trust‑based relationships with technical leaders across NSD agencies. Translate mission and operational requirements into cloud‑native solutions. Deliver technical presentations, workshops, and immersion days for both technical and non‑technical audiences. Identify opportunities to accelerate customer outcomes through new AWS services and programs. Work closely with account managers, partner SAs, professional services, and specialist teams to deliver end‑to‑end customer outcomes. Engage with NZ defence primes and systems integrators to support joint solution delivery. Contribute to the broader NZ SA team through knowledge sharing, peer reviews, and community building. Provide technical input to opportunity qualification, pricing discussions, and proposal responses. Qualifications 4+ years of experience in a specific technology domain such as software development, cloud computing, systems engineering, infrastructure, security, networking, or data & analytics. 2+ years designing, implementing, or consulting in applications and infrastructures. 10+ years in IT development or implementation/consulting within the software or Internet industries. Ability to obtain and maintain a NewZealand Government Security Clearance (strong preference for candidates who already hold clearance). Preferred Qualifications Experience working within software development or Internet‑related industries. Experience migrating or transforming legacy customer solutions to the cloud.
