Job Description
Job Description As a summer intern with Meridian Energy, you'll get the opportunity to work on some of New Zealand's most iconic hydro and/or wind generation assets, as well as being active in all aspects of the company. The programme will push you to develop real-life business and technical skills. We only take a small number of interns each year, and we only want the best! In return we’ll make sure you get some great hands‑on experience. You’ll be trusted with owning real projects that contribute to how we generate, deliver and support energy across Aotearoa, and will be supported by a friendly team of experts along the way, who will help develop your knowledge, skills, and professional profile. You’ll gain hands‑on exposure at our key generation sites, work shoulder‑to‑shoulder with seasoned engineers, and solve real‑world challenges that span different hydro and wind generation systems. This 400‑professional hour placement doesn’t just tick the box for your university requirements - it offers immersive learning across engineering and other Generation and Development business teams. Along the way, you’ll uncover the inner workings of Aotearoa’s energy systems and see firsthand what it takes to keep the country powered. Qualifications We’re keen to hear from students across a variety of disciplines who are currently in their 3rd (penultimate) year of a relevant degree, who are curious and passionate about the electricity industry. Some of our intern roles may require a full, clean driver's license, particularly when regular travel to generation sites is part of the role. Additional Information Meridian is truly flexible, diverse, and inclusive: we value and live by three ‘How to Be’s’: be gutsy, being in the waka, and being a good human. We embrace diversity and inclusion and ensure that everyone feels like they belong, are welcomed, feel valued, and feel comfortable to bring their whole selves to work. We want all our people to be the best that they can be, so we make sure that there’s room for everyone to be exactly who they are, and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences, including individuals with disabilities, diverse health needs, and those who identify as neurodiverse, because we believe our differences make us stronger. Our internship runs from November 2026 to February 2027 with a small break over Christmas/New Year. Please note – you’ll need to be available for interviews the week of 24th August 2026 (NB timeframes may be adjusted and we will advise you in advance of any changes). #J-18808-Ljbffr
