Job Description
Dairy Herd Manager – Kamo, Northland We are seeking a reliable and experienced Dairy Herd Manager to join our farming team based in Kamo, Northland. This is a hands‑on role suited to someone who is confident in the day‑to‑day operation of a dairy farm and is able to support and train junior staff where required. This is a full‑time permanent role with a minimum guarantee of 40 hours per week. The pay rate for this position is $33.00 to $35.00 per hour, depending on skills and experience. Responsibilities Assist with the efficient running of the dairy, including milking, animal health, effluent management, feeding, calf rearing, mating support, and general farm maintenance. Carry out milking and milk quality procedures, identify and assist with the treatment of common animal health issues, support calving and calf rearing, recognise cows on heat, and assist with mating processes. Manage pasture and supplements, operate and maintain farm machinery and vehicles, set up and maintain fencing, and assist with irrigation and effluent systems. Ensure the farm dairy is kept clean and hygienic, milk harvesting is carried out safely and correctly, and animal health treatments and events are accurately recorded. Follow all farm health, safety, environmental and biosecurity procedures. Communicate with the farm owner or manager and prioritise daily tasks. Qualifications Relevant tertiary diploma or bachelor’s qualification in agriculture, dairy farming, animal science or a related field, or at least 2–3 years of relevant dairy farming experience. Strong practical dairy farming skills, good animal handling ability, and an understanding of milk quality and animal welfare requirements. Ability to work safely and efficiently in a busy farm environment, work early mornings, weekends and rostered hours as required. Physically fit, reliable, punctual, with a positive attitude, good time management, and attention to detail. Willingness to follow workplace procedures and instructions and to contribute to the smooth and efficient running of the farm. #J-18808-Ljbffr
