Job Description
Overview Collection Curator (6‑month fixed term, full‑time, onsite) at Auckland Botanic Gardens, Auckland Council. Key Responsibilities Curate a portfolio of plant collections that meet guidelines, standards, and customer expectations, introducing new plants to enhance impact. Leverage plant curation expertise and stay ahead of global trends, engaging with botanical garden networks and specialists. Collaborate with nursery staff to coordinate plant propagation and production, ensuring portfolio thrives within agreed sustainability standards. Mentor and inspire apprentices, students and volunteers, developing a skilled, motivated workforce. Proactively plan and manage schedules, accounting for seasonal variations, to consistently meet horticultural standards and plant collection guidelines. Resolve maintenance requirements, ensuring plant collections are well presented and any issues are handled efficiently. About You We’re looking for a horticultural expert with: Minimum Level 4 diploma in Horticulture. At least 3 years of horticulture experience, preferably within a botanic garden. Demonstrated experience working with internal and external stakeholders. Strong experience in upskilling horticultural apprentices through coaching and mentoring. Excellent communication (oral and written) skills to engage diverse audiences. What We Offer Competitive salary range of NZ$76,000 – NZ$84,000 pro rata.
