Job Description

Teaching Chemistry Technician – Full-time (37.5 hours per week) permanent position at the University of Auckland, Auckland City Campus, within the Technical Services team of the School of Chemical Sciences. This role is responsible for ensuring that undergraduate chemistry teaching laboratories are prepared, equipped, and ready for practical teaching. Key tasks include: Preparing, setting up, and packing down undergraduate chemistry teaching laboratories. Maintaining laboratory equipment, instruments, and facilities to ensure safety, reliability and readiness for teaching. Managing laboratory consumables, chemicals and inventory. Supporting practical teaching sessions and demonstrating laboratory equipment and techniques where required. Troubleshooting technical issues and contributing to continuous improvements in laboratory operations. Collaborating with academic staff to develop and test new teaching experiments and activities. Ensuring laboratories operate in accordance with health, safety and hazardous substances legislation. Supporting outreach activities, exhibitions and public engagement events. Applicants should possess: Experience working in a chemistry laboratory environment. Practical knowledge of laboratory equipment, instrumentation, and safe chemical handling. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities. Excellent communication skills and confidence working with students and academic staff. A proactive approach to solving problems and improving processes. A genuine willingness to learn new technologies and techniques. A qualification in chemistry or a related discipline is an advantage, though relevant technical experience may also be considered. Remuneration: $63,600 - $79,300 per annum, dependent on experience.
