Produce Manager

The Opportunity As Produce Manager, you'll take ownership of a high-volume department and be responsible for: Leading, coaching, and developing a large team Driving sales growth, gross profit, and productivity targets Managing ordering, inventory control, and stock flow Delivering exceptional standards of freshness, quality, and presentation Ensuring outstanding product availability and customer experience Creating a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement Maintaining excellence in food safety, health and safety, and compliance A key part of this role is being actively involved in the buying side of the business. You'll regularly visit produce markets, work closely with growers and suppliers, assess product quality firsthand, negotiate opportunities, and build the relationships that help keep PAK’nSAVE Wairau Road at the forefront of produce retailing. These relationships have been a significant contributor to our success over the years, and we're looking for someone who understands the value of getting out into the market and working directly with suppliers to secure the best quality, availability, and value for our customers. About You You'll be someone who: Has proven leadership experience in Produce or fresh food retail Has strong knowledge of produce quality, seasonality, and market trends Understands buying, forecasting, inventory management, and margin performance Can build and maintain strong relationships with growers, wholesalers, and suppliers Leads from the front and isn't afraid of hard work Can motivate, develop, and hold a team accountable Has excellent planning, organisational, and communication skills Thrives in a fast‑paced environment where every day presents a new challenge Is ambitious, resilient, and driven to achieve outstanding results This is an opportunity to lead a flagship Produce department within one of New Zealand's highest‑performing supermarket operations.
