Job Description
We currently have an opportunity for an HVAC Technician to join our Department of Corrections and the Ministry of Justice team and play a key role in our high-performance Facilities team. Reporting to Site Facilities Manager, you’ll help deliver high-quality outcomes that support our essential services. Te Kwhiringa | The Opportunity Downer holds a long-term Asset Management and Facilities Management contract with the Department of Corrections and the Ministry of Justice. This involves the proactive management and delivery to the national portfolio of facilities including 15 prisons, 100 courts and 157 community correctional sites. This contract underpins the provision of availability of facilities to support core Government services. This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking to expand their knowledge in the Facilities sector. There are a lot of opportunities to grow within the team and you will be exposed to different responsibilities that will further enhance your skills as an HVAC Technician. Prisons are sometimes challenging work environments, so you must be confident and able to conduct yourself professionally at all times. You will also understand the 24/7 nature of a prison site and be prepared to sometimes manage jobs and situations after hours. What You’ll Do Support service and project delivery under the direction of designated leadership, working within defined parameters such as time, cost, and resources. Maintain positive customer relationships and provide technical support as needed. Assist in developing specifications, engineering designs, scopes, costs, and quotes for solutions. Contribute to risk management, service improvements, and business development initiatives when requested. This is a fantastic role that will suit someone who is outcome-focused, enjoys a challenge, and is able to take initiative whilst building great relationships with our team and client. Nga pkenga matua | Important Skills Have a solid understanding of NZ electrical rules and regulations and are EST registered with the EWRB. NZQA Level 4 Air Conditioning qualification is an advantage. Has a valid New Zealander drivers licence. Understand basic business operations and financial principles. Demonstrate strong service and project delivery experience. Communicate effectively with all levels and follow directions from leadership. Show strong personal management, ownership, motivation, and a positive, outcome-focused attitude. Apply strategic thinking, problem-solving skills, and a willingness to challenge the status quo for improvement.
