Mōtēnei mahi | About the role We’re looking for two passionate Kaiako to join us at our Whare ĀmaiPuna Reo, Gisborne on a casual basis. In these roles, you’ll be responsible for providing last‑minute cover when another Kaiako is able to work. This may involve receiving a call either in the morning or the previous evening to cover a full day or specific hours. Additionally, from time to time, you’ll have the opportunity to cover upcoming/planned leave for other Kaiako if you’re available. As a Kaiako, you'll create a safe, culturally rich learning environment for our tamariki, supporting marau aligned with Te Whāriki and kaupapa Wānanga, documenting tamariki progress, and collaborating with kaimahi and whānau to achieve positive outcomes. To be successful for one of these roles, you'll have the following: Qualification in Teaching (ECE or Primary) and a current Practicing Certificate issued by the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand an advantage. Proven experience working with tamariki. A sound understanding of Māori culture, values, tikanga and te reo. A full NZ Driver’s License. These roles are classed as a Core Worker and you will need to pass a safety check under the Children’s Act 2014. These roles require some lifting, bending, and standing for long periods of time. As a kaupapa Māori organisation, your willingness to participate in cultural activities and develop an understanding of Āhuatanga Māori (values, culture and tikanga) is desirable.
