Job Description
About The Role The Sterile Services Technician role is a highly detailed role focussed on ensuring the effective sterilisation, preparation and maintenance of instruments and equipment used during surgical procedures. This is a permanent role offered at 1.0 FTE or 40 hours per week role to be worked on a rotating roster Monday-Saturday. Although prior experience and education in sterile services is preferrable it is not essential, and all training including pursuing a certificate in sterilising technology is available on-the-job. Specific duties include: Following applicable processes and policies to ensure medical instruments and equipment are cleaned and sterilised to eliminate the risk of infections and/or contamination With a high attention to detail, ensure instruments and equipment are correctly repackaged, and assigned to appropriate kits Undertake further education to obtain a certificate in sterilising technology, if you do not already hold this Utilise washers, autoclaves, steris machines and hydrogen peroxide low temperature sterilisation, in accordance with applicable standards Undertake checks to ensure loan equipment kits are complete and processed in a timely manner ready for use in theatre Skills and Experience Previous experience in a healthcare/theatre or sterile services setting would be advantageous, but is not essential A high level of concentration and attention to detail, with small detailed work involving the use of microscopes forming part of this role Hold a current NZSSA qualification, or have willingness and commitment to undertake study in this field, on-the-job A team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills Enthusiasm and a proactive, flexible attitude To be eligible for employment at Mercy Hospital Dunedin, applicants will be required to provide vaccination history.
