Clinical Nurse Specialist – Mental Health & Addictions Whare Whakaue, Rotorua Hospital – Permanent, Full-time (40 hours per week, rostered over 7 days) About the role An experienced Mental Health Registered Nurse with acute mental health experience is invited to join our multi‑disciplinary team at Whare Whakaue. The role provides clinical leadership and supports changes to service delivery following the migration to our new build. As a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), you will contribute to nursing knowledge and skills in the assessment of health needs, planning and delivery of nursing care, ensuring alignment with Te Ara Tauwhirotanga (the Model of Care for Mental Health and Addiction Services) and the Mental Health & Addiction Nursing Strategy. Working within the acute inpatient setting, you will work alongside patients and families to achieve maximum health potential that is meaningful to them. Responsibilities Demonstrate and role‑model safe, quality nursing practice that is evidence‑based and reflects best practice. Lead and work on Quality Improvement Projects/Initiatives to ensure better outcomes for clients. Provide advanced assessment and support staff managing complex care needs in an acute inpatient setting. Undertake audits to identify gaps and improve practice. Engage in contemporary practice and quality initiatives for improved outcomes with an equity focus, including achieving improved outcomes for Māori accessing care. Qualifications Senior Registered Nurse with a valid Annual Practicing Certificate. At least 5 years experience in an acute mental health setting (preferably in‑patient). Relevant Masters Degree in mental health or addictions or clear evidence of working towards postgraduate qualifications. Ability to successfully engage and empathise with families/whānau in a positive manner. Demonstrate knowledge and application of NZ health strategies.
