Job Description
Role Overview Registered Psychologist – Cancer and Blood Services – Radiation Oncology, Whangarei Hospital. Permanent full‑time (40 hours/week, Monday to Friday). Provide psychological assessment and care in collaboration with patients and families to support patients receiving radiotherapy. Key Responsibilities Deliver psychological assessment and care for patients within the Radiotherapy Oncology Unit in the new Whangarei Base Hospital building. Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to plan and implement evidence‑based interventions, including Mindfulness, CBT, ACT, and other therapeutic approaches. Provide psychological treatment plans and interventions that address psychosocial, behavioural, and coping challenges related to cancer treatment. Maintain clinical documentation and participate in clinical governance and quality initiatives. Advise patients, their families, and the clinical team to achieve safe, equitable, and culturally appropriate care. Contribute to the development and delivery of educational and support resources for patients and staff. Qualifications and Skills Recognised tertiary degree in psychology or an allied health qualification. Registered and hold a current annual practising certificate with the New Zealand Psychologist Board and Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Scheme (HPCA). Computer literacy – proficiency in Word, Outlook, and relevant clinical programmes. Experience in assessment, planning and intervention in oncology or similar settings. Knowledge of issues and psychopathology in community‑based secondary health settings. Ability to provide comprehensive clinical assessment and psychological treatment skills. Commitment to biculturalism and to achieving equitable outcomes for Māori. Current and full New Zealand driver licence.
