About the Role We’re looking for a capable and motivated Project Manager with a technical background to take ownership of contracting projects from inception through to commissioning and close-out. This role offers variety, technical depth, and the opportunity to work across multiple electricity networks or assets with different customer standards. You’ll be responsible for delivering electricity distribution projects covering zone substations, overhead and underground systems, subdivision works, private assets and industrial HV electrical networks. Role Responsibilities Complete projects safely, on time, and within budget Accurate estimates, quotes, and financial management of active projects Thorough design and pricing reviews following handover from Estimating Detailed and complete Work Packs for field staff Efficient planning to maximise resource utilisation Accurate scoping and coordination of materials and contract resources Maintaining strong customer liaison and stakeholder engagement Be well organised, understanding key project deliverables and milestones to be met As a technical specialist, support field crews works delivery across multiple networks including industrial clients Take ownership for timely completion of actions allocated to you Complete project close‑out, financial reconciliation, and documentation Participation in peer reviews, tender close‑out meetings, and lessons learned sessions Identify risks early, solve problems quickly, and ensure no gaps exist in the project planning and delivery, expectations or communication Experience Bachelor of Electrical Engineering, National Certificate in Electrical Engineering Level 4, or equivalent Minimum 2 years’ relevant project management or technical experience in a related industry Strong knowledge of LV and HV distribution networks and zone substations Understanding of NZ electricity industry standards and safety legislation Financial literacy and the ability to manage project budgets confidently Experience building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships Proficiency in Excel, Word, and Microsoft Project Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) A proactive mindset, strong time management, ability to multitask and sound decision‑making ability A great attitude and commitment to team success PRINCE2®, PMP®, or Business Management qualifications are advantageous but not essential What We Offer Competitive remuneration plus vehicle for full private use An in‑house well‑being programme, a peer support network (Kaitiaki) and EAP services Life Insurance and group discounted medical insurance Commitment to professional growth and development A friendly workplace where people are valued and appreciated Tailored leadership development in line with our specialised capability framework Social club and participate in family and social events and activities Discounted gym membership and a range of retail discounts About Us Northpower is an electricity and fibre network provider for Whangārei and Kaipara, with more than 60,000 connected customers.
