Opportunity Permanent Surgical Registrar positions with an allocation of Orthopaedics. Ongoing 2027 Orthopaedic allocations for strong candidates. Commencing as soon as possible or 3 August 2026. Surgery Allocations are across Wellington, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa (Masterton) Hospitals. Location and Rotation The Wellington Region Surgery RMO positions are rotational across multiple hospitals, including Wellington Regional, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa (Masterton) Hospitals. You may rotate to any of these sites during your time with us. The service will accommodate run preferences stated in your cover letter. Runs and Specialties The Wellington Region offers runs in General Surgery, Vascular, Paediatric Surgery, Cardiothoracic, Neurosurgery, Urology, Otolaryngology, Orthopaedics and Plastics. General Surgery covers Colorectal, Endocrine, Breast and Upper-Gastrointestinal surgery. Vascular includes endovascular work and kidney transplants. Salary RMO salaries are calculated based on relevant previous years of experience and the average weekly hours of work as set out in the relevant run description. For the current salary bands, please refer to the current Multi-Employer Collective Agreements. Experience and Eligibility Resident Medical Officers who will be PGY3/F3 or above by role commencement date. Eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Must be a New Zealand or Australian citizen or resident, or have an appropriate visa to live and work in New Zealand. Formal and informal teaching sessions are available to all our RMOs. Hospitals and Services Hutt Hospital : Provides specialist regional services in plastic and maxillofacial surgery. Approximately 1500 staff, 270 beds. Surgical allocation includes 27 general surgical and gynaecology beds, 22 orthopaedic and 27 plastic surgery beds. Wellington Hospital : Provides secondary and tertiary surgical services to a local population of 296,000 and a regional population of over 1 million. Wellington Regional Hospital is a tertiary hospital with modern facilities including a Surgical Assessment and Planning Unit. Kenepuru Community Hospital provides predominantly secondary services to communities north of Wellington. Wairarapa Hospital (Masterton) : Busy rural hospital with up to 92 beds. Provides full range of secondary surgical services. Resident services of general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, and orthopaedics are supported by a team of anaesthetists, radiology, laboratory, pharmacy and allied health. Visiting specialists support resident services, increasing number of specialties on site.
