Part-time (15 hrs/wk minimum) position About the Okarito Native Plants Nursery The Okarito Native Plants Nursery is dedicated to growing and supplying native plants for local restoration projects and private sales. We focus on ecological conservation, community engagement, and sustainable plant propagation practices. We are seeking a passionate and self‑motivated Nursery Worker to take ownership of the nursery, overseeing daily operations, plant propagation, stock management, and supporting the Okarito Plant Project’s restoration efforts. Position Summary Okarito Native Plants Nursery is seeking a dedicated Nursery Worker for a permanent part‑time role (15 hours/week). The position involves managing daily nursery operations, including plant propagation, stock management, and supporting local restoration projects through the Okarito Plant Project. Responsibilities include seed collection, plant care, customer assistance, and nursery maintenance. Ideal candidates will have horticultural experience, knowledge of native New Zealand plants, and strong organizational skills. This role offers the chance to work in a beautiful environment while contributing to ecological restoration. Skills & Experience Experience in horticulture, nursery work, or ecological restoration preferred. Knowledge of native New Zealand plants and their propagation techniques is an advantage. Ability to work independently and manage a structured workload. Strong organizational and record‑keeping skills. Comfortable with physical outdoor work in various weather conditions. Friendly and approachable, with good communication skills for engaging with customers and volunteers. Additional Information This part‑time role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact within an inspiring conservation project, supporting ecological restoration and strengthening community connections across South Westland. We welcome candidates with a background in nursery or environmental work who share our vision of a thriving, biodiverse region. Although there is some flexibility in this role, you will be required to be in the Nursery on certain days and times, and attend the majority of the Okarito Plant Project planting and maintenance days that are scheduled.
