Job Description

Position Specialist Diabetes Services & ICU – Full time, permanent, 40hours per week (8:00am to 4:30pm). Location Whangarei Hospital, HealthNewZealand | TeWhatuOra. Role Overview Registered Psychologist to work between the Diabetes Service and the Intensive Care Unit at Whangarei Hospital. Purpose of the Role Provide professional, client‑centred psychological practice to patients and their whanau/families. Liaise with the wider hospital team to meet patient and whanau's needs. Be an effective team member. Complete and update records and data in a timely manner. Responsibilities Deliver a proficient and streamlined psychological evaluation and therapy to individuals facing challenges that hinder their capacity to attain optimal functioning and well‑being within the Diabetes Service and Intensive Care Unit. Provide services at 20hours per week in each service, with the option to work 0.5FTE in either post. Qualifications Registered Psychologist with a current NZ practising certificate. Comprehensive psychologist assessment and treatment skills. Clinical experience working with individuals with chronic health conditions. Proficiency in evidence‑based practice. Full registration under the Health Practitioner Competence Assurance (HPCA) Act 2003 with a scope of practice appropriate for mental health and addiction clinicians, or equivalent (nurse, psychologist, psychotherapist, occupational therapist). OR previously registered alcohol and drug and/or gambling practitioner, member of DAPAANZ. OR previously registered Social Worker, or full member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors.
