Job Description
Assistant Farm Manager – Kamo, Northland Black Sands Immigration Consulting Ltd is hiring an Assistant Farm Manager for our dairy farm in Kamo, Northland, New Zealand. This full‑time, on‑site position offers opportunities for career growth. Pay & Working Hours Pay range: $35.00 to $40.00 per hour, depending on skills and experience. Minimum guarantee of 40 hours per week. Key Duties Assist with daily farm management and support the Farm Manager or owner to ensure efficient, safe, and productive operations. Implement farm policies and plans, organise daily tasks, monitor herd performance, support milk production targets, and manage feed allocation. Oversee milking operations, monitor milk quality, troubleshoot dairy issues, and assist with drying‑off decisions. Implement animal health programmes, identify and treat common animal health issues, manage calving when required, assist with mating plans, monitor cow condition, and maintain accurate health and event records. Assist with pasture and feed management: conduct farm walks, assess grass cover, monitor post‑grazing residuals, calculate feed requirements, and organise supplementary feed as needed. Help manage environmental and compliance responsibilities: effluent management, water use, nutrient management, farm maintenance, machinery operation, and ensure compliance with workplace procedures, consent requirements, health and safety obligations, and biosecurity standards. Maintain clear communication with the farm owner, demonstrate good planning skills, and step up to run the farm when required. Qualifications & Experience At least 3 years of relevant dairy farming experience or a bachelor’s degree in agriculture, dairy farming, farm management, animal science, or a related field. Strong practical dairy farming skills, sound animal handling ability, good knowledge of milk quality, animal welfare, pasture management, and farm compliance. Physically fit, reliable, punctual, able to work early mornings, weekends, and rostered hours as required, and willing to follow workplace procedures and instructions. Strong time management, attention to detail, initiative, problem‑solving ability, and a positive attitude.
