Job Description
About the role Reporting to the Head of Licensing and Standards, the Flight Examiner role is a pivotal position within the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). It works alongside four other Flight Examiners in the Licensing and Standards Unit and involves conducting examinations of industry-based Flight Examiners to ensure compliance with the Civil Aviation Act and maintaining flight standards through flight tests and assessments delegated by the Director CAA. Additional responsibilities include researching, advising and directing policy on the maintenance, update and development of flight standards, with a focus on flight training, licensing and ratings under Part 61. Travel for testing and assessment is required. Responsibilities Conduct examinations and flight tests of Flight Examiners. Perform assessments required under delegation from the Director CAA. Research, advise and direct policy on flight standards, training, licensing and ratings. Maintain compliance with the Civil Aviation Act and relevant CAR Parts. Travel across New Zealand as required. Qualifications ICAO Professional Pilot Licence (ATPL or CPL) with Instrument Rating and Instructor Category A or B Rating. Experience as a Flight Examiner or equivalent military experience. Substantial, varied and relevant experience in the aviation industry; general operational knowledge and experience with CAR Parts 61/91/119/135/141. Strong communication skills and ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with industry and sector bodies. Knowledge of regulatory system requirements in flight training, examination, operations and safety. Location Permanent position based in Wellington, Auckland or Christchurch.
