Job Description
Court Liaison Registered Nurse – Permanent Part Time 0.5 FTE – Mental Health Services, Timaru Hospital, Health New Zealand Overview The Court Liaison Nurse provides specialist mental health assessment and advice within the court setting, supporting the court to understand the mental health needs of individuals and facilitating access to appropriate services. The role offers variety, autonomy, and the opportunity to contribute to meaningful outcomes for people at a critical point in their interaction with the justice system. Key Responsibilities Conduct mental health assessments in the court setting Identify emerging or untreated mental illness Provide clear, evidence‑informed recommendations to the court Liaise with court staff, police, legal representatives, and health services Facilitate access to appropriate mental health and addiction services Manage a small forensic caseload, including ongoing assessment, risk management and follow‑up of clients Collaborate closely with the Community Mental Health Team and Forensic Services Qualifications and Experience Minimum of 5 years in specialist mental health services Demonstrated skills in assessment, risk formulation, and clinical decision‑making Strong communication skills and the ability to engage across a range of settings Proficiency in working independently New Zealand Registered Nurse Practicing Certificate and right to work in New Zealand Understanding and application of TeTiritioWaitangi principles Employment Terms This role is covered by the terms and conditions of the Nursing Collective, and the Pay Scale is determined on relevant experience.
