Job Description

A New Zealand-owned and operated hotel in the Auckland Airport Precinct is looking for a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Assistant to join its Food & Beverage team. This is a great opportunity for someone who takes pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen environment while supporting the culinary team. About the Role: As a Kitchen Assistant, you will be responsible for ensuring the kitchen remains clean, organised, and compliant with food safety and hygiene standards. Working with minimal supervision, you will play a key role in supporting daily kitchen operations. Key Responsibilities: Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe kitchen environment at all times. Wash and sanitise dishes, cutlery, cookware, and kitchen equipment. Operate and clean the dishwasher at the end of each shift. Clean kitchen floors, work benches, shelving, ovens, grills, stove tops, chillers, and storage areas. Dispose of rubbish, recycle cardboard, and maintain clean waste bins. Safely handle and dispose of broken crockery and glassware. Clean and store kitchen mats and ensure wet floor signage is displayed during cleaning. Assist with maintaining staff kitchen supplies, including tea, coffee, and other refreshments. Help receive, store, and organise kitchen items as required. Report maintenance or operational issues to the Chef on duty. Carry out additional cleaning and kitchen support duties as directed. What We're Looking For: Previous kitchen hand or commercial cleaning experience is essential. Physically fit and able to remain on your feet throughout the shift. Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness. Reliable, hardworking, and able to work independently. Flexible and available to work weekends, with additional shifts available when required. Reliable transport to and from work. Restricted or Full New Zealand Driver Licence (preferred due to shift times). Ability to pass a Ministry of Justice check and pre-employment drug test. Applicants must hold a valid New Zealand work visa, residency, or citizenship. What's on Offer: Part‑time position – 16 hours per week. Weekend shifts (Saturday and Sunday) – 8‑hour shifts, primarily morning shifts with occasional afternoon shifts depending on hotel functions. $24.65 per hour. Training provided.
