We are now seeking a General Manager – Discover Waitomo to lead this unique part of our business. The opportunity This is more than a leadership role – it’s a chance to shape the future of one of New Zealand’s most treasured destinations. As a key member of the thl New Zealand leadership team, you will have end-to-end responsibility for the Waitomo Group. You’ll lead a diverse portfolio of iconic experiences including the Waitomo Glowworm Caves, Ruakuri and Aranui caves, Black Water Rafting, accommodation, and events. You’ll bring together commercial performance, customer experience, environmental stewardship, and community connection—creating a business that is both profitable and purposeful. What you’ll lead A destination experience like no other – delivering world-class, memorable tourism experiences that connect people with nature and culture. A high-performing business – driving profitability, growth, and operational excellence across the Waitomo Group. People and culture – building capability, developing leaders, and fostering an engaged, safety-focused crew. Strategic direction – shaping and delivering the Waitomo business plan and contributing to enterprise-wide strategy. Stakeholder partnership – acting as the principal thl leader within the region, working closely with Ruapuha Uekaha Hapu, Iwi, Department of Conservation, and local communities. Future Fit sustainability – protecting the cave and karst ecosystems, and leading environmental and infrastructure outcomes that ensure long-term sustainability. What you’ll bring You are an experienced and authentic leader who thrives in complex, purpose-led environments. A strong track record in leading customer-focused, operational businesses. Commercial acumen and experience delivering sustainable financial performance. The ability to build trusted relationships across a diverse stakeholder landscape.A leadership style that grows people, fosters accountability, and creates clarity. Experience working in (or a genuine commitment to) a bicultural environment grounded in Te Ao Māori values. A passion for environmental stewardship and responsible tourism.
