About the Role Registered mental health clinicians are invited to join the Crisis Assessment and Home Treatment Team (CAHT) at Waikato Hospital. The team works 24/7, providing rapid assessment, crisis intervention and short‑term treatment to individuals experiencing acute mental health challenges. Clinicians work across a range of settings including homes, community locations, emergency departments and hospital wards. Services and Key Teams Crisis Team (24/7) – includes a dedicated night nurse based in the Emergency Department Home‑Based Treatment Team – community‑based care as an alternative to hospital admission Crisis Follow‑Up Team – short‑term follow‑up care post‑crisis Police Co‑Response Team – joint intervention alongside New Zealand Police Emergency Department Crisis Clinician – night shift in the ED Essential Qualifications and Skills Registered mental health clinician with current registration in NZNC, SWRB or OTBNZ and a valid APC. Full NewZealand driver’s licence. Demonstrated expertise in mental health assessment and risk management. Strong clinical reasoning and ability to respond effectively under pressure. Proficiency in managing crises involving psychosis, suicidality, substance use and distress. Confidence in developing safety plans and supporting recovery‑focused outcomes. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Cultural competence and commitment to culturally safe practice.
