Join Our Newly Established Duty Planning Team Are you looking to build your career in planning and resource management while making a real difference in a growing district? Permanent | Full Time | Rangiora Waimakariri District Council is developing a dedicated Duty Planning Team within our Resource Consents Team, and we're looking for a motivated Duty Planner to join us. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new team focused on delivering high‑quality planning advice and exceptional customer service to our community. As a Duty Planner, you'll be the first point of contact for planning enquiries, providing advice on land use activities, subdivision processes, and District Plan requirements. You'll help ensure Council meets its obligations under the Resource Management Act 1991 while supporting sustainable growth and positive environmental outcomes across the Waimakariri District. Responsibilities Respond to planning-related enquiries across email, phone, and in person Provide practical planning advice for minor developments and pre‑application meetings Review property enquiries and Project Information Memorandums (PIMs) Maintain accurate and accessible records for planning processes Qualifications A recognised qualification in Planning, Resource Management, Surveying or a related field Knowledge of the Resource Management Act 1991 and planning processes A proactive problem‑solver who thrives in a collaborative and supportive team environment Someone with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage independent tasks A keen eye for detail and a commitment to clear, professional communication Planning experience is desirable, ideally around 1–2 years; however we are also interested in hearing from candidates with the right attitude, skills and a willingness to learn.
