Job Description

Overview Te Ātea Marino, part of Waitematā Districts Specialist Mental Health and Addiction Group, offers a permanent full-time position for an Alcohol and Drug Clinician. The role will be based in Ronwood Avenue, Manukau and will operate Monday to Friday (8:00‑16:30) with weekends off. The clinician will work within a culturally minded, small but supportive team dedicated to providing addiction care for Māori communities. The position is open to candidates of all ethnicities. Key Responsibilities Conduct assessment and formulate treatment plans for individuals and groups. Manage risk and provide ongoing individual and group therapy, including motivational interviewing or equivalent counseling techniques. Integrate Māori cultural values into clinical practice and support whanau engagement. Maintain documentation and comply with professional and legal standards. Participate in clinical and cultural supervision, in-service training, and professional development. Qualifications Relevant qualification in counselling, social work or mental/health. Minimum of five years post‑graduate experience working in the addiction sector. Full registration with DAPAANZ as a competent AOD practitioner or full registration with a professional body according to clinical training. Sound clinical skills in assessment, treatment formulation and risk management. Proficiency in individual and group therapy, including motivational or equivalent counselling experience. Understanding of Māori cultural values, with the ability to weave those values into clinical practice or a willingness to learn. A full driver’s licence. Ability to adapt to changing work environments, including relocation if required. Strong organisational, detail‑oriented and prioritisation skills.
