About the Ombudsman Mo te Tari o te Kaitiaki Mana Tangata - The Chief Ombudsman works with his staff to help New Zealanders in their dealings with government agencies. The focus is on handling complaints against government agencies, undertaking investigations and inspections, and encouraging good administration. Public confidence in government institutions is under pressure. The Office of the Ombudsman is a constitutionally independent role critical to the success of good administration. Demand for our services is growing and New Zealanders need us to show up in new ways and be more accessible and impactful. About the team The Sector Engagement team is a new team established as part of the organisational changes. The Sector Engagement team is focussed on engaging with public sector agencies and other external stakeholders that fall under the Ombudsman's jurisdiction. They also engage with international integrity agencies. About the role The Advisor Sector Engagement supports the development and maintenance of trusted, collaborative relationships with public sector agencies, other stakeholders under the Ombudsman's jurisdiction, and international integrity institutions. You will also respond to agency advice requests on the application of the Ombudsmen Act or the official information legislation. About you To be successful in this role you will have: Understanding of the Ombudsman jurisdiction and role in contemporary society. Understanding of current New Zealand public sector practice and the context in which public sector agencies operate. Strong written and oral communication skills, and ability to translate complex ideas or jargon into clear messaging tailored to specific audiences. Strong relationship and stakeholder management skills. A relevant tertiary qualification (or equivalent work experience in a similar position). Awareness of democratic and constitutional principles, including Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities, including intellectual rigour and creativity. Proven ability to prioritise and execute work in a pressured environment. Proven ability to work collaboratively within teams and across functions. Understanding of the Ombudsman's operating legislation or investigation practice would be advantageous. Experience or interest in learning and development, facilitation or coaching would be advantageous.
