Job Description
Role Overview A senior Cloud SRE role based in Auckland and Wellington on a fixed‑term 12 month contract. You will build, automate, and operate resilient cloud platforms that support critical services across Kiwibank and our partners. Your focus will be reliability, security, infrastructure as code, and delivery automation, shaping scalable platform patterns, uplifting engineering standards, and solving complex operational challenges. Responsibilities Design, build, and operate secure, resilient, and scalable cloud infrastructure and platform services across AWS and Azure using infrastructure as code and automation‑first practices Build and improve CI/CD pipelines, deployment standards, and engineering workflows that enable safe, repeatable, and auditable delivery of infrastructure and application changes Actively lead and take ownership of complex tasks and initiatives, taking them from solution ideation to production implementation Provide mentoring and assistance to junior engineers, working closely with security, risk, architecture, delivery, and product teams Contribute to modern ways of working by engaging in Agile ceremonies—planning, stand‑ups, reviews, and retrospectives—while driving continuous improvement, operational excellence, and reduction of technical debt Key skills and experience 5+ years' commercial experience in Site Reliability Engineering, Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering, or a closely related role supporting production environments Strong hands‑on experience with AWS and Azure, including building and supporting cloud‑native and hybrid platform capabilities in complex enterprise environments Deep expertise in infrastructure as code using Terraform and related tooling, with a track record of creating reusable modules, policy‑driven controls, and automated platform provisioning Extensive experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, automation workflows, and testing practices that support safe, reliable, and efficient software and infrastructure delivery Solid experience across cloud operations, networking, identity and access management, observability, configuration management, containers, and operational security practices Proven ability to work effectively in Agile and DevSecOps environments, partnering closely with engineers, product teams, security, and risk stakeholders, and contributing meaningfully to team ceremonies and delivery rhythms Strong experience in incident management, problem resolution, and root‑cause analysis, with exposure to regulated industries where auditability, resilience, risk management, and compliance are critical Benefits Flexible working arrangements, wellbeing days, staff banking discounts, and an extensive benefit package including discounted banking and new‑parent support.
