Position Manager Regulatory Systems & Data Analytics – Wellington, New Zealand. About the role Reporting to the Director of Data & Insights, you will lead the Regulatory Systems and Data Analytics team, driving the Department of Internal Affairs’ data maturity through strengthened governance, modern data practices, and improved use of analytics to inform decision‑making. You will support the organisation’s transformation agenda, ensuring systems and data are aligned to deliver greater value. The regulatory environment is evolving rapidly, with new responsibilities including oversight of online casino gambling and becoming the sole regulator for Anti‑Money Laundering, alongside existing gambling and charities regulation. You will partner with stakeholders and Enterprise Digital Services to deliver end‑to‑end data solutions that generate insights to support effective regulation and policy outcomes. Working in close alignment with Identity Services as part of a centralised data function, you will shape and implement a unified data strategy across regulatory and identity systems, lead a team of analysts and specialists, oversee key platforms, and ensure technology investment aligns with business priorities. What you bring Proven experience leading data strategy and transformation, data analytics and/or digital product management. A collaborative leadership style with proven experience leading high‑performing teams and developing capability and culture, and the ability to lead through change. Expertise in data communication and storytelling, working with the team and stakeholders to bring the data to life. Strong understanding of data governance, analytical frameworks, and public sector systems. Ability to connect data and technology to long‑term business outcomes. Confidence engaging with senior leaders, vendors, and cross‑agency partners. Awareness of TeTiritioWaitangi obligations and how they shape data and digital service delivery.
