About the Role Tonkin + Taylor recruits an experienced Senior Terrestrial Ecologist/Herpetologist to support ecological consulting services from Christchurch, New Zealand. The role focuses heavily on ecological impact assessments, native lizard management, habitat restoration and environmental monitoring activities across infrastructure and land development projects. Applicants will provide technical leadership while supporting multidisciplinary environmental and engineering initiatives nationwide. The selected professional will lead ecological surveys, lizard salvage programs, relocation projects and post‑relocation monitoring activities. Strong expertise in New Zealand herpetofauna, ecological regulations and protected species management frameworks is required. The position requires extensive fieldwork, technical collaboration and conservation responsibilities. Job Duties Conduct ecological surveys of terrestrial habitats and native herpetofauna species. Lead native lizard salvage, relocation, monitoring and habitat management activities. Prepare ecological impact assessments and environmental management plans. Develop and implement Lizard Management Plans according to regulatory requirements. Supervise ecological field teams and ensure compliance with permits and best practices. Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and environmental consulting teams. Provide ecological policy advice to support infrastructure and land development projects. Mentor junior ecologists and support technical growth. Liaise with contractors, clients, iwi representatives and regulatory authorities. Job Requirements MSc or PhD in Ecology or a related scientific discipline. Minimum eight years of professional ecological consulting, research or regulatory experience. Strong expertise in terrestrial flora, fauna, and herpetofauna management. Demonstrated experience handling New Zealand native lizards under Wildlife Act authority. Proven experience preparing ecological and lizard management plans. Experience supporting large‑scale infrastructure or land development environmental projects. Strong leadership abilities and effective multidisciplinary collaboration. Excellent technical writing, communication and ecological reporting skills. Experience using GIS software and ecological data management systems is beneficial. Current driver’s licence to support regular fieldwork and travel requirements. #J-18808-Ljbffr
