Job Description
Principal Engineer – Azure Modernization (6‑month full‑time contract, 3‑month part‑time contract available) Contract Details 6‑month full‑time contract – hourly rate $120‑$130USD (negotiable) 3‑month part‑time contract – 20hours/week, $120‑$130USD hourly (negotiable) Location & Work Arrangement Based in Auckland CBD Hybrid working model: 2 days per week onsite (mandatory Anchor Day on Monday) Part‑time role requires 20hours per week in office Responsibilities Lead a critical engagement for a client, modernising their Integrated Communications Platform (ICP) built on legacy BizTalk, Documentum, and xPression, preparing for vendor support expiry in late 2026 Produce an Azure‑based future‑state roadmap to replace legacy middleware Balance high‑level architectural strategy with low‑level engineering implementation, embedding within squad, performing story‑level slicing, guiding implementation Refactor monolithic legacy code into microservices and event‑driven architecture Ensure observability from day one, designing for SLOs and Golden Signals with Azure Application Insights Collaborate closely with teams, stakeholders, and client to deliver documentation and maintain clear communication Qualifications Strong architectural and engineering skills – 50/50 split between strategy and implementation Deep expertise in Azure stack (Functions, Service Bus, App Services) and modern .NET Core Experience with ReactJS and NodeJS Track record of refactoring monolithic code into microservices and event‑driven solutions Ability to design for observability, SLOs, and Golden Signals using Azure App Insights Excellent communication skills, both technical and non‑technical, and strong documentation ability Valid New Zealand work visa required; sponsorship for international candidates only if specified Benefits Competitive hourly rate, negotiable within stated range Immediate joining opportunity – preferred for next 2weeks Hybrid working flexibility and support for professional development #J-18808-Ljbffr
