Mōtetūnga | About the role The Oranga Tamariki Disability Strategy was shaped through extensive engagement with the disability community, including tāngata wahaikaha Māori, Pacific disabled people, care-experienced young people, iwi, and whānau. In September 2025, Te Riu (our Leadership team) endorsed a dedicated Programme to support implementation of this Strategy - strengthening how we meet the disability needs and uphold the rights of tamariki, rangatahi, parents and caregivers. The Disability Programme focuses on improving practices and services, strengthening disability data and insights, building capability across all kaimahi, and enhancing our ability to advocate for change across the children’s and disability systems. The Senior Project Manager-Data leads the integration of disability data capability into organisational systems, performance and processes by providing expert data and technology leadership. The role is responsible for shaping and translating business needs into clear technical requirements, ensuring disability considerations are effectively embedded within the organisation’s case management system and our performance systems. Working in close partnership with Practice teams, the role also drives the development of practical guidance and supports implementation to enable consistent, sustainable use of disability-informed data across the organisation. The ideal candidate will bring lived experience of disability to the way we work. Key requirements of the role include: Demonstrated connection to the disability community through lived experience, professional work, or community involvement. Strong knowledge of the disability sector, including relevant data and evaluation frameworks, models, and best practice, with experience in Oranga Tamariki or similar public sector or frontline service environments. Experience in delivery of complex, large-scale transformation initiatives within data and technology environments. Advanced capability in programme and project planning, monitoring, and financial management, with proven experience coordinating and integrating multiple projects within a programme context. Proven ability to lead end-to-end change management in complex organisational environments, particularly in delivering technology change for frontline staff and implementing data frameworks. Strong strategic thinking and decision-making capability, supported by analysis, including financial modelling and cost-benefit evaluation, with the ability to understand the broader organisational context. Highly developed stakeholder engagement, communication, and leadership skills, including facilitating diverse input, fostering collaboration and innovation, and producing high-quality presentations and project artefacts. Understanding of cross-cultural practices, including tikanga Māori and Pacific perspectives, and the ability to apply these in programme and project delivery. Oranga Tamariki offers a step-based remuneration package, that offers progression annually for experience through tenure.
