Kaiawhina - Kaupapa Māori Cancer Care Coordinator

Ngāti Porou Oranga is building a dedicated team to stand alongside whānau living with cancer, walking with them from diagnosis through treatment, recovery, and beyond. This kaupapa is about more than clinical care. It’s about restoring hope, protecting mana, and ensuring every whānau on the Coast can access the support they deserve, close to home and grounded in te Ao Māori. Working alongside our Cancer Care Clinical Coordinator (RN) and the wider health team, the Kaiāwhina plays a vital role in improving access to prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship support for Māori whānau. This is a Full-Time role based out of Gisborne, holding it down for the East Coast from Pōtaka down to Whāngārā. As part of our Cancer Care Coordination Service, you’ll work across marae, homes, and clinics to make a real difference for whānau facing some of their hardest health journeys. Our approach blends clinical expertise, cultural strength, and community connection, guided always by Ngāti Porou values of manaaki, tika, pono, aroha, and ringa raupa. Proven ability to engage effectively and respectfully with Māori whānau and hapū. Strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Māori models of health. Experience working in iwi, Māori, or NGO/community settings. A clean, full driver’s licence and total comfort travelling across rural Tairāwhiti.
