About this role This Wellington‑based, full‑time principal advisor position is a fixed‑term or secondment opportunity until 30 July 2027. The role provides strategic leadership and high‑quality advice across Business Operations, driving complex projects that improve student outcomes. You will translate policy into practical implementation, influence senior decision‑makers, and work collaboratively with the Ministry and external stakeholders. Responsibilities Lead, scope and deliver complex, high‑impact work, translating policy into operational delivery. Provide clear, compelling advice to senior leaders on strategic risks, issues and priorities. Work collaboratively across the Ministry and with stakeholders to design and implement effective solutions. Use data, evidence and insight to guide decision‑making, monitor performance and drive continuous improvement. Qualifications Proven ability to lead and deliver complex, high‑impact work programmes with clear, persuasive writing. Strong relationship builder who can influence, collaborate and bring diverse perspectives together. Highly analytical, using evidence and insight to shape decisions and identify risks and opportunities. Critical thinker bringing intellectual leadership, resilience and sound judgement in fast‑paced, complex environments. Willingness and obligation to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct. Salary and Benefits Salary range: $119,171 – $144,560 per annum + KiwiSaver. Meet the Team The purpose of Te Poutāhū is to lead the national curricula for Aotearoa New Zealand and associated systems of assessment and aromatawai. We design, develop and provide curriculum services for teachers, leaders, students, their families and communities that reflect their identities, languages and cultures. Our expertise spans te reo Māori, mātauranga Māori, disability, inclusive learning support and culturally relevant content to support inclusive learning for all students.
