Te Haeata/The Opportunity We are looking for a Lead Advisor/ Senior Advisor to join our Sourcing and Commercial Management team within Commercial Services. This role is focused on end‑to‑end sourcing — from early market engagement and procurement planning through to contract award, implementation, and ongoing commercial support. You will work across a diverse portfolio of procurement activities (everything except property), partnering closely with business stakeholders to deliver practical, policy‑aligned, and value‑for‑money outcomes. This Role Will Consist Of Many Hats Commercial Excellence: Lead and shape commercial and supplier management strategies, managing significant Ministry contracts. High‑Impact Leadership: Drive strategic commercial change and improvements that will directly contribute to the success of the Ministry's goals and the broader Justice system. Market Trend Innovator: Stay ahead of the curve by analysing market trends and knowing your suppliers' businesses. Master of Negotiations: Engage in complex negotiations with top‑tier stakeholders, ensuring that every dollar spent maximises value. Mentorship and Growth: Build and develop the capabilities of your team and stakeholders, while also expanding your own expertise and making a tangible, lasting impact on the community. Skills And Experience Have a procurement, commercial or legal background and/or qualification. Be able to identify, analyse, and capitalise on business opportunities. This includes understanding market trends, financial implications, and strategic business drivers that can impact the Ministry's strategic direction. Have extensive experience in managing and negotiating contracts, with a thorough understanding of legal terms and conditions, risk management, and compliance requirements. The candidate should be adept at ensuring that contracts are aligned with the Ministry's objectives and provide value while mitigating potential risks. Have a strong customer focus and willingness to look for solutions to problems or issues on behalf of stakeholders. Demonstrate a strong commitment to being a supportive and approachable team player, where colleagues feel comfortable seeking your advice and guidance, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment. Have an in‑depth understanding of the Government Procurement Rules and how they should be applied in complex situations. Be committed to the principles of te Tiriti o Waitangi. Lead Advisors are expected to have 5 to 7 years of relevant experience. Senior Advisors are expected to have 3 to 5 years of relevant experience. It provides advice and manages efficient, value for money procurement practices for the Ministry, including advising and developing the Ministry's procurement strategy and policies in line with the Government Procurement Rules. The Sourcing and Commercial Management team manages most of the Ministry's contracts, including all Information Technology contracts. Our team ensures that contracts are effectively negotiated, executed, and monitored to meet the Ministry's goals. We ensure the Ministry maintains compliance with legal and policy requirements while optimising supplier relationships for cost efficiency and performance. Salary The appointing salary for Senior Advisor role will be between $99,208 to $127,683 and for Lead Advisor will be $130,129 to $168,062 based on skills and experience.
