Job Description
Job Overview Take ownership of a portfolio of Crown entities and system monitoring priorities, building a deep understanding of performance, governance and emerging risks. Be part of building the team as we aspire to be the best monitoring team in government. Ensure monitoring is disciplined, risk‑based and focused on what matters most for system performance. Responsibilities Own Crown entity and system monitoring workstreams by leading monitoring for assigned entities and priority system areas, maintaining a current, evidence‑based view of performance, governance, risks and trajectory. Apply robust monitoring judgement by analysing performance information, governance material and intelligence to determine what matters, why it matters, and what is likely to happen next. Deliver decision‑ready monitoring advice through high‑quality briefings, dashboards and recommendations that clearly distinguish between fact, judgement and risk, and explain confidence and uncertainty. Support deep dives and escalated monitoring by contributing substantive analysis, shaping lines of inquiry, testing evidence and translating assurance findings into practical monitoring insights and escalation advice. Strengthen monitoring practice and capability by engaging constructively with Crown entities, supporting “no surprises” monitoring, mentoring Advisors, contributing to continuous improvement, and embedding equity and Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations in all work. Qualifications Relevant tertiary qualification and/or equivalent experience in health, monitoring, governance, regulation, risk, performance or a similarly complex public‑sector environment. Strong capability in risk‑based monitoring and analysis, with sound judgement to distinguish signal from noise and recommend proportionate next steps. Proven ability to deliver high‑quality, decision‑ready advice, presenting clear options, implications and recommendations for senior audiences. Well‑developed analytical, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, supporting effective collaboration across diverse partners. Commitment to lifting monitoring capability through mentoring and guidance, with a strong commitment to cultural competence and upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations. Benefits and Working Conditions Permanent position based in Wellington, with 4.4 weeks annual leave. Midpoint of $108,452 dependant on professional skills and experience.
