Downer's Infrastructure Delivery team is helping deliver the Ōtaki to North of Levin (Ō2NL) Highway Project. We are looking for a skilled Project Engineer - Stormwater to join the Ō2NL South Alliance and support the successful delivery of key stormwater drainage works on this significant infrastructure project. About Ō2NL: The Ōtaki to north of Levin (Ō2NL) highway will dramatically improve safety, resilience, and efficiency, as well as increasing transport choices for the area's growing population. The Ō2NL project is led in partnership with NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi, Muaūpoko Tribal Authority, local hapū of Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga and council partner Horowhenua District Council. This transformative project is being delivered using a two-alliance approach, with each alliance delivering a section of the road and associated works. Together alliance partners are working to create a positive legacy for the region, led by our project principles to tread lightly with the whenua and create an enduring legacy. Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity As Project Engineer, you will be responsible for the efficient delivery of stormwater drainage works within the Ō2NL South Alliance. Working as part of an integrated alliance team, you will contribute to the successful execution of the construction programme through strong technical leadership, coordination of subcontractors, and close integration of design and construction activities. This position oversees the construction of drainage infrastructure including the installation of pipes, culverts, manholes, and treatment systems while ensuring all works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with alliance values, project principles, and Health & Safety objectives. Nga pūkenga matua | Important Skills Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline. Additional certifications in stormwater management, drainage design, or site supervision are advantageous. 5+ years of experience in civil infrastructure, with a focus on drainage, stormwater, or three waters projects. Demonstrated experience in site-based delivery, project coordination, and subcontractor management. Experience with inspection and test plans (ITPs), quality assurance, and environmental controls. Competence in project scheduling, cost tracking, and variation management. Strong planning, coordination, and problem‑solving skills. Effective leadership and mentoring capability. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement. Commitment to alliance values, including cultural competency and environmental stewardship.
