Job Type: Permanent | Full Time Location: Christchurch, New Zealand Job Category: Program & Project Management About the Role This is a newly created senior, strategic role within the Project Management Office, providing expert advice and leadership to strengthen how we deliver projects across the organisation. You’ll play a key role in building fit‑for‑purpose frameworks, lifting portfolio visibility, and supporting informed decision‑making at the Executive Leadership level. By working closely with senior leaders, you will help shape a clear, organisation‑wide view of project delivery, improve assurance reporting, and support the successful adoption of project outcomes. Responsibilities Lead portfolio reporting, assurance and insight to ELT Develop and embed consistent project frameworks and ways of working Enable organisation‑wide visibility of project pipelines and dependencies Partner with senior leaders to support decision‑making and sequencing Support uplift of PMO capability and community of practice Qualifications You’re a strategic thinker with strong influencing skills and a track record of working with senior leaders in complex environments. You’re comfortable navigating ambiguity, building alignment, and delivering practical, high‑quality outcomes that improve organisational performance. Extensive experience in project, portfolio, or transformation environments Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing capability at senior levels Ability to translate strategy into practical frameworks and reporting Proven success improving organisational delivery or maturity Collaborative, proactive and solutions‑focused approach Experience Experience working with Executive Leadership Teams and senior stakeholders Demonstrated success developing frameworks, reporting and assurance approaches Experience lifting organisational portfolio or PMO maturity Strong background in large, complex or regulated environments Relevant qualification in organisational development, change, systems thinking or project management Values Kaitiakitanga (stewardship) Pononga (integrity) Manaakitanga (people first) Whanaungatanga (collaboration) Māiatanga (can do) About Environment Canterbury Environment Canterbury is a regional council responsible for managing natural resources including air, soil, water and land.
