Job Description
We are partnering with a large central government agency to recruit a Senior Payroll Specialist into a well‑established and high performing payroll team. This is a genuine senior opportunity where you will stay hands on with payroll processing while taking ownership of more complex work and supporting the wider team. This role sits in a large and complex payroll environment with multiple employment agreements, high volumes and a strong focus on accuracy and service. You will work across multiple payroll streams, giving you great variety and exposure. About The Role This is a key role within the payroll function, responsible for ensuring payroll is processed accurately and on time, while also providing technical expertise and guidance across the team. You will play an important role in resolving complex queries, mentoring colleagues, and contributing to continuous improvement across payroll processes. Running end to end fortnightly payroll cycles and out of cycle payments Completing complex payroll calculations including terminations, leave and entitlements Managing escalated queries and providing clear, practical advice Ensuring payroll complies with legislation, policies and employment agreements Supporting and mentoring Payroll Specialists within the team Contributing to system updates, agreement changes and process improvements About you You will ideally bring strong end to end payroll experience from a complex organisation, with the confidence to navigate technical detail and provide guidance to others. You enjoy working in a high volume environment and take pride in delivering accurate and timely outcomes. We are looking for someone who: Has at least a few years of payroll experience in a complex environment Is confident with complex calculations and legislation interpretation Has worked with multiple or collective employment agreements Is comfortable mentoring and supporting others Brings strong tier one payroll system experience Has excellent attention to detail and a strong customer focus Whilst ideally you'll be ready to step in to a Senior Payroll position seamlessly or already be operating in a Senior capacity, the client is willing to look at people after a step up, providing that they demonstrate all the attributes to thrive in the role!
