Head of Cards Modernisation – Payments (Lead Product Owner) At ASB, our Payments platform sits at the heart of how New Zealand moves money, underpinning everything from everyday transactions to complex card and digital payment journeys. We’re undertaking one of the bank’s most significant transformation programmes, a full modernisation of our Cards ecosystem. This includes replatforming across issuing, acquiring, ATM and switching capabilities. We have an opportunity for an experienced senior leader to join the Payments Tribe, owning one of ASB’s top priority transformation programmes. This role reports to the Head of Payments and will shape the future state of our cards and payments capability. About the role As Head of Cards Modernisation (Lead Product Owner), you will provide end-to-end ownership of a large-scale, complex transformation programme. You will lead a multi-vendor delivery environment of 150+ people, partnering across Product, Engineering and Delivery to drive outcomes. This is a highly visible role, requiring strong executive engagement, clear decision-making and the ability to translate complex technical delivery into tangible business value. The role sits at the intersection of product strategy, technical execution and commercial outcomes, ensuring delivery momentum across a critical platform rebuild. What you will do Own end-to-end delivery of the Cards Modernisation programme Lead a large, multi-party delivery model across Product, Engineering and Delivery Drive sequencing, prioritisation and key trade‑off decisions across the programme Translate complex technical delivery into clear business outcomes Lead executive engagement, governance and key decision‑making forums Build and maintain strong programme culture and delivery momentum Bridge product strategy, technical execution and commercial outcomes Work across a highly integrated, multi‑vendor environment What we are looking for With Regards To Background, The Following Capabilities Are Necessary Proven experience leading large-scale, complex transformation or platform programmes Track record delivering in highly integrated, multi‑vendor environments Experience leading programmes of 100+ people Strong commercial ownership mindset, not just delivery focused Executive level stakeholder management and influencing capability Ability to operate in ambiguity, set direction and drive momentum Nice to have Experience within cards, including issuing and/or acquiring Background in payments, core banking or large-scale platform modernisation Experience working across complex vendor platforms and integrations Working at ASB ASB’s sense of who we are and what we stand for is grounded in our values.
