About the role Hikitia Education Tutors are instrumental in ensuring the Tikanga of Hikitia is upheld, shared, learned, and demonstrated through Manaakitanga towards the tane in our care. As a Hikitia Education Tutor, you will act as a positive role model that operates in ways that influence learners to think differently. Implement culturally responsive approaches to enable engagement and achievement from the tane in our care. Increase cultural connection, awareness, and identity. Develop, plan, and implement lessons to facilitate with the tane in our care utilizing the Hikitia Oranga Programme. Demonstrate a Maori‑centred practice grounded in relational, holistic, and strengths‑based approaches to be delivered with cultural integrity, safety, and sustained impact. Embed Matauranga Maori and Maori models of wellbeing, such as Te Whare Tapa Wha, into all aspects of Corrections‑led education and rehabilitation. About you We are looking for dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to join our education team. To be successful you will bring the following: Excellent relationship skills with a strong ability to influence positively. Self‑awareness and relational skills that enable understanding of the needs of different tane in our care. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with peers and foster teamwork and co‑operation across teams. Proficiency in Te Reo Māori, tikanga, and Matauranga Māori. Skills and experience A teaching qualification or subject‑specialist qualification, level5. NewZealand Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy, level5. Must hold an NZQA unit standard4098. Moderation experience would be an advantage. Sound understanding of TeTiritioWaitangi. A clean, current full driver’s licence is essential for this position. Must legally be able to work full‑time in Aotearoa, NewZealand. Benefits Salary range is $77,841–$86,152 per annum. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
