Job Description
About this role Full‑time, permanent position based in the Invercargill office. As a Special Education Advisor, you will play a critical role in the region's Learning Support team by collaborating with educators, parents, caregivers, and whānau to enhance understanding of each child and support the development of personalised learning plans. Responsibilities Collaborate with a team around the child to assess behaviours and identify learning needs. Develop, implement and monitor effective personalised learning plans. Support adults to make changes to learning environments that better manage behaviours and create safer settings. Assist children in developing pro‑social responses, improving participation, wellbeing and learning outcomes. Facilitate access to wider services (e.g., speech and language therapy, local agencies) as required. Promote inclusive practices across schools and other educational settings. Travel across the district and maintain a full current driver’s licence. Adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct. Qualifications Qualified and fully registered NZ teacher. Additional qualifications in Learning Support, Post‑graduate Diploma in Special Education or Educational Psychology preferred. Demonstrable knowledge, experience and skills in supporting children and young people with severe and challenging behaviours. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to sustain productive professional relationships. Commitment to evidence‑based interventions and inclusive education practice. Sensitivity to cultural and ethnic diversity and commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi. Knowledge of Te Ao Māori and willingness to promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. Willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi as it applies in the public sector. Salary $69,966 – $106,016 per annum plus KiwiSaver.
