Extended School Year (ESY) Special Education Teacher, Summer 2026 Position Type: Extended School Year (ESY) – Licensed/ Special Education Teacher Date Posted: April 17, 2026 Location: Special Education (District) Classification: Exempt Contract Length/Days: Summer 2026 Salary: By year, salary placement is determined by flat rate, salary schedule, or per diem. Paid Leave: Article VII of the Master Contract covers the leave opportunities available for certified staff including sick and discretionary leave. Reports to: Assistant Director of Special Education Deadline for application: Until Filled Education / Experience Required: Bachelor's degree Colorado Teaching License (Endorsement in related field) Preferred: Experience in related field Job Description Provide an enriched atmosphere where students learn subject matter and/or skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible members of society. Facilitate learning and guide students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional and psychological growth and maturation. Responsible to the building principal and department director where assigned. Provide services to students with disabilities as defined in their Individualized Education Program and work collaboratively with related services providers and general educators to ensure students receive an appropriate education. Essential Functions Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students. Maintain discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school and county policies. Ensure adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum standards, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects, and communicate these objectives to students. Use instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives and standards. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required. Diagnose the learning abilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required. Conduct counseling with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, maintaining order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for instructional assistants and/or volunteers, working cooperatively with department heads. Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved. Strive to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional standards and objectives. Respect students' personal spaces throughout the day. Implement students' IEP plans, ensuring the integrity of academic time and motivating students to learn and participate. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation. Be available to students and parents for education‑related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested under reasonable terms. Cooperate with other staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods. Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials. Accept a share of the responsibility for co‑curricular activities as assigned. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as reasonably possible. Model non‑discriminatory practices in all activities. Comply with and support school and division regulations and policies. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students. Engage in ongoing professional growth through reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning. Perform other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school/division policies and practices. Maintain confidentiality regarding students' information.
