Job Description

Position Details 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week) fixed‑term position available in Ward B8, Waipapa Building at Christchurch Hospital. The role is rostered and rotating shifts Monday to Sunday – Morning, Afternoon and Night. The position is available until 8 February 2027 as replacement for parental leave. About the Role An integral part of the multidisciplinary team. Candidates should have excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to use initiative. Responsibilities Provide patient care, including personal care Clean and tidy the ward / housekeeping Stock the ward with supplies Assist the nursing team with a variety of tasks on the ward Ensure that patients have the best experience possible Prioritise patient safety at all times About the Service Ward B8 is a busy, acute ward caring for patients with neurological conditions such as brain tumours, head injuries, spinal tumours, movement disorders and seizures. It is the largest inpatient neuroscience facility in the South Island, providing a medical and surgical environment for a complex patient group. Qualifications Experience as a Healthcare Assistant or similar Ability to work all shifts – Morning, Afternoon and Night Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Punctual, reliable, with excellent time‑management High attention to detail and ability to relate to patients and families Good initiative, problem‑solving skills and willingness to learn Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is committed to ensuring excellent healthcare for all New Zealanders and embraces a diverse and inclusive workforce.
