Job Description
Processing Officer - Overseas Operations An exciting opportunity to be part of and contribute to the delivery of successful voting services for the 2026 General Election and be part of our Overseas Operations team based in Lower Hutt. The primary responsibility of the Processing Officer is to support the Overseas Operations Team’s core activities as required to ensure the successful delivery of the General Election. This involves assisting with the efficient operations of Vote Issuing, Vote Receipt, Vote Processing, and Vote Count stages. In addition, you will help ensure proper procedures and documentation are maintained, and all deadlines are met. This casual role is for a Processing Officer in the Overseas Operations team with an hourly rate of $28.95 + 8% Holiday Pay. Key responsibilities Issuing, receiving and processing voting papers, including data entry Preparing voting papers for counting and taking part in the vote counting process Ensure confidentiality around sensitive matters and security of data and materials Ensure proper procedures are followed and correct documentation is maintained Identifying any issues and escalating them in a timely manner Provide customer support by answering voters’ enquiries via phone or email, assisting voters to enrol and cast their vote, including Registering and taking Dictation votes, according to defined processes. About you We are seeking candidates who have: Experience processing paper-based documents Ability to follow verbal and written instructions thoroughly Attention to detail and good judgement Ability to focus and work accurately for extended periods, performing sometimes repetitive tasks Previous election experience would be an advantage Ability to work effectively under pressure, displaying flexibility to move between tasks when needed About the Electoral Commission The Electoral Commission wants every New Zealander to trust, value and take part in parliamentary elections.
