Our central Health and Safety team operates a proactive partnering model across all aspects of the University, ensuring Health & Safety is part of our day‑to‑day culture. You will work with the business to provide specialist advice and support to stakeholders. Your role will focus on ensuring all our people, staff, students, and academics understand their Health & Safety responsibilities. You could be involved in policy advice, incident investigations, assurance and audit programmes, training support, and partnering with your portfolio. You will also lead a small team of Health and Safety Specialists and partner with other Senior Health and Safety Specialists and the wider Health & Safety team. About you You bring energy, curiosity and openness to new ideas, a collaborative and adaptable approach, and a positive workplace culture. You have cultural humility and respect for Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Indigenous peoples. Experience supporting Indigenous, equity or inclusion initiatives is highly valued. 5 years’ experience providing sound Health and Safety advice and guidance in a large, complex organisation. Higher education experience would be a bonus. Industry recognised Health and Safety qualification. At least 2 years of leadership experience, either through direct reports or by influence. Experience navigating diverse work environments, disciplines and risk profiles typical of a tertiary or multi‑site setting. Experience providing Health & Safety advice in technical environments such as workshops, laboratories, or plant facilities is desirable. Experience with responsibility for functional areas in Health & Safety Management Systems, Hazardous Substances, Assurance and Risk, Digital solutions and Reporting. Experience in investigations, risk assessments, training, technical investigations, contractor management, and reviewing safety plans at a strategic level is advantageous.
