About Us At Seequent, we help organisations to understand the underground, giving the confidence to make better decisions faster. We build world‑leading technology that is at the forefront of Earth sciences, transforming the way our customers work. Every day we help them develop critical mineral resources more sustainably, design and build better infrastructure, source renewable energy, and reduce their impact on the environment. We operate in 145+ countries while proudly maintaining headquarters in New Zealand. About The Role As we continue to scale our AI capability within Seequent Evo – our geoscience data platform used by earth scientists and engineers globally – we’re looking for a Team Lead to lead an AI engineering team. This is a unique opportunity to combine deep technical expertise in Generative AI with people leadership, shaping how GenAI capabilities are designed, built, and embedded into the platform at scale. You’ll lead a team delivering applied GenAI solutions that enable customers to surface insights from complex subsurface data, simplify workflows, and make more informed decisions. At the same time, you’ll play a critical role in building the team, establishing best practices, and driving engineering excellence. What You’ll Do Lead and grow a high‑performing AI engineering team – provide technical and operational leadership, foster a strong, collaborative culture. Coach and mentor team members, supporting their development and performance. Allocate work effectively across the team, aligning skills with priorities and outcomes. Contribute to hiring and scaling the AI capability. Own technical direction and solution design – lead the design and architecture of complex GenAI systems, ensuring alignment with engineering standards. Guide the team in applying appropriate modeling techniques and modern AI patterns. Evaluate design trade‑offs, drive decisions, and ensure solutions meet functional and non‑functional requirements, including security. Lead design and code reviews to ensure quality and consistency. Oversee the build, test, deployment, and ongoing operation of production‑grade GenAI systems. Support the development of solutions such as Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG), semantic search and vector‑based retrieval, agent‑based and service‑oriented architectures (e.g., MCP, A2A). Ensure systems are scalable, reliable, secure, and maintainable. Take responsibility for end‑to‑end delivery of medium‑scale initiatives – manage scope, risks, timelines, and stakeholder alignment. Collaborate closely with Product and Design to deliver meaningful customer outcomes. Lead release planning, quality reviews, and post‑release retrospectives. Promote best practices in software development, DevOps, and security. Improve processes, tooling, and standards across the team. Ensure adherence to CI/CD, testing, and governance practices. What You’ll Bring Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent. 7+ years experience in software engineering, including senior‑level experience. Experience leading a team (formal or informal leadership). Hands‑on experience building and operating GenAI/LLM‑powered systems in production. Technical Expertise Generative AI and LLM‑based applications. RAG systems, semantic search, and vector databases. Agent‑based architectures and protocols (e.g., MCP, A2A or similar). Cloud‑native development and microservices (Docker, Kubernetes, APIs such as FastAPI). CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices. Leadership & Collaboration Strong stakeholder management and communication skills. Ability to balance hands‑on technical contributions with leadership responsibilities. Experience coaching and mentoring engineers. Proven ability to drive decisions, influence outcomes, and deliver results. Additional Information Office‑based working environment; work from our Toronto office at least two days per week.
