As an Apprentice Bus Technician, you will be trained to inspect, diagnose, repair, and test equipment and systems on buses from different manufacturers. The work ranges from performing simple tasks, like replacing a part, to solving complex faults using diagnostic equipment. The tasks faced by a technician are constantly changing, as vehicles become more complex with new technologies and differing fuel types. At Arriva, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills and experience across a range of vehicles. You will be based at our Chester depot, working alongside an experienced team who will support and mentor you along the way. About The Apprenticeship This 3‑year programme is working towards a Bus and Coach Technician Level 3 qualification with a specialism in Mech/Elec (mechanical/electrical) . The course runs with 5‑day training blocks every 6 weeks at our partner’s state‑of‑the‑art workshop in Wolverhampton. The course will give you the skills and experience required to become a skilled Bus Engineer, including: How to inspect, diagnose, and record defects to the applicable standard Diagnostic principles based on logical, analytical interpretation leading to problem resolution Emerging bus and coach technologies and their impact on future knowledge and skills Current health and safety requirements and workshop practices How to carry out high‑quality road‑worthiness inspections specific to your trade How the business operates from an operational perspective and how your role fits within the organisation Customer expectations for delivering a safe, clean, reliable service The requirements of attending and assessing roadside incidents About You This programme is designed for people at every stage in life – from recent school leavers to individuals looking for an exciting career move. We’re looking for those with an inquisitive mindset who love solving problems and don’t mind getting their hands dirty. You will need to have GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent) at Grade C / Level 3 as a minimum. Under 18s: £8 per hour 18 to 20: £10.85 per hour 21 and above: £12.71 per hour In your first year, wages raise year‑on‑year in line with the National Minimum Wage and progress through the course Together we strive to make travelling by bus the best choice for everyone.
