Mana Whakatipu Service This new service offers a new path, a new life, and growth beyond the gate. We support tangata whaiora to navigate as they transition from a justice journey to reintegrate back into community. Each journey begins with a first step: establishing a place of safety and whanaungatanga. From there, we nurture stability through housing, employment and wellbeing with a focus on community, whānau and cultural connections to support a clear path forward. Working as a Peer Support, you will join a multi‑disciplinary team of clinical, housing and employment, peer support and Mātauranga Māori practitioners providing holistic support for those navigating reintegration into community following a justice journey. This role will involve evenings and weekends on a rostered basis one in every eight weeks. Mana Whakatipu is a collaboration, bringing together the strengths of Purapura Whetū Trust, Odyssey House Christchurch and Christchurch City Mission – we work together in a ‘one‑team’ approach, to deliver holistic reintegration supports that are trauma and healing informed, whānau‑centred and culturally sustaining. About the Role This is a permanent, full-time position, worked Monday to Friday and may include a rostered weekend. Providing peer support to tangata whaiora and liaise with their whānau as consented, to support sustainable reintegration into community Facilitating groups both inside and outside the wire. Ensuring client’s peer support activities are planned, delivered and monitored to expectations. Understanding Intentional Peer Support (IPS) practice. Demonstrating an understanding of addiction and mental health and concepts of recovery and wellbeing. Supporting a multi‑disciplinary team to ensure the case plans are client‑led Connecting tangata whaiora with other agencies and supporters Proactively building strong effective networks About You – What You Bring Qualification in Peer Support Work field or working towards one Lived Experience of criminal justice system, mental health and /or addiction Group facilitation experience an advantage Sensitivity and ability to work with diverse clients Adaptable team member with a partnership approach to work Ability to work with situations of conflict and crisis Have good organisational skills to juggle a busy workload Be a strong team player and communicator Have a good understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and knowledge of tikanga Māori / te reo Have a non‑judgmental approach to working with tangata whaiora.
